Abstract
The most general quantum description of optical four-wave mixing in the Heisenberg picture is considered. Conditions are found under which light beams involved in this process exhibit sub-poissonian photon statistics and squeezing of fluctuations, particularly as a result of coupling of modes. The effect of quantum pumping compared to classical pumping of modes is also discussed.
