Summary
At timet=0 “rain” starts to fall on the free surface of a stream of water flowing in horizontal direction with originally constant velocity. Addition of the rainwater effects a decrease of the velocity of the stream. An exact solution for the velocity as function of time and depth is found by Laplace-transform methods. For small time the solution has boundary layer character, for large time it is wavelike.
