Is (Ins)2 rise in nucleon-nucleon total cross section excluded by cosmic ray data?

Abstract

Problem of extraction of nucleon-nucleon total cross section from data on zenith angle dependence of frequencies of extensive air showers is discussed. It is shown that one cannot in this way distinguish even between asymptotically constant cross section and that increasing like (Ins)2.
