Abstract
Linearized first-order coupled wave equations are derived which describe waves in horizontally stratified hydromagnetic media, with gravity allowed for. The cases considered are compressible media of finite scalar conductivity (for two special configurations of the magnetostatic fields), compressible media of infinite conductivity and cold incompressible media.
