Double prismatic slip in textured Mg-2%Be alloy

  • Published:
Czechoslovak Journal of Physics B Aims and scope

Abstract

The tensile deformation of extruded and annealed rods of Mg-2%Be powder alloy is interpreted with respect to the observed fibre texture as a double prismatic slip with resulting elongation along the rod axis. Temperature and the strain-rate dependences of CRSS confirm that cross-slip is the controlling process at higher temperatures. The preferred orientation facilitates independent deformation of neighbouring grains up to the fracture.
