Galileo-invariant theory of low energy pion-nucleus scattering

III. The π-4He reaction and light π-mesoatoms

Abstract

Using two versions of Galileo-invariant optical model,π -4He elastic scattering cross sections were calculated in the energy interval 50–260 MeV. Level shifts and widths of several lightπ-mesoatoms were estimated in the Born approximation. Whereas the (A+1)-body model appears to be more suitable in the resonance region, the two-body model yields surprisignly good results for both the low-energy scattering and the characteristics ofπ-mesoatoms.
