Abstract
Results of the intrinsic absorption edge measurement of CdAs2-based glasses are correlated with the results of metallographic examination of their homogeneity. The inhomogeneities give rise to the tail of the exponential absorption edge. Although the absorption edge is more sensitive to the presence of inhomogeneities than is the metallographic analysis, one may not distinguish among various sorts of inhomogeneities from the shape of the absorption edge only. A proper combination with metallographic analysis or with another type of experiment is necessary.
