Abstract
The role of the Froissart-Martin bound in obtaining rigorous phase-modulus asymptotic correlations for forward scattering is examined. A general form of the asymptotic upper bound on the total cross sectionσ covering the majority of cases occuring in weak interactions as well as in model field theories is assumed and its consequences for the asymptoticσ-ϱ correlations are drawn,ϱ being the ratio ReF/ImF for the crossing-even forward scattering amplitudeF. It is shown that the form of the correlations depends in an essential way on the absolute bound onσ assumed. Generalizations to the crossing-odd amplitude as well as to non-forward scattering are pointed out.
