Abstract
The findings from the protocol analyses of six experienced designers solving engineering systems problems are presented. Three distinctly different design tasks were each addressed by two designers. A modified coarse-grained analysis focused on the introduction of information into the design process. The results identify three categories of information introduced during the design process, and a relationship between information introduction and concept generation.
