Computer databases in urology: History taking and patient management

  • Published:
World Journal of Urology Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

A system has been developed that can take a full urological history, including incontinence. Its development and eventual implementation on IBM-compatible machines is described. Patients interact with the computer using a light pen, selecting from multiple-choice answers. A printout is produced that shows the history and recommendations for initial investigations. Contraindications to investigations are highlighted and warnings generated. To date, >600 patients have used this system. Potential exists for linking both the history-taking system and our multi-user departmental system with an appointments system.
