A method to compare quark and gluon jets in\(e^ + e^ - \to q\bar qg\) hadronisation

Abstract

A sensitive measure for the different spread of quark and gluon jets is proposed. It is based on minimization of suitable sums over energy weighted squares of trigonometric functions. A quantitative estimate predicts a 24% effect which should be observable at present energies.
