The efficiency of a solar cell produced in crystalline silicon with an + p-structure depends on the effective diffusion length of the minority carriers in the base and in the emitter, on the recombination in the depletion layer and on the surface recombination rate. Possible optimizations of the different regions will be discussed. This results in a proposal for an optimal solar cell structure.
