Hospitals' and patients' views of industrial therapy

  • Published:
Psychiatric Quarterly Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

It appears that industrial therapy has evolved, within a relatively short time, into an important treatment tool in the mental hospital. The ratio of patients discharged from this therapeutic activity makes it an important factor in psychiatric treatment, and further investigations of the dynamics of industrial therapy functions may yield valuable insights into some components of psychiatric rehabilitation. The current emphasis on open hospitals and community-oriented psychiatry may serve to elevate this therapy to an even more important role.
