The annihilation interaction, mean collision number and average multiplicity in antiproton-nucleus collisions

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik C Particles and Fields

Abstract

Within the multiple scattering model it is discussed how to treat the annihilation interaction in antiproton-nucleus (\(\bar p - A\)) collisions by imposing the constraint that the real annihilation of the incident\(\bar p\) can take place only once. The cross sections, mean collision numbers and average multiplicities are given both for the\(\bar p - A\) annihilation and non-annihilation events. The multiplicity difference between\(\bar p - A\) andp-A collisions is shown to be useful as a test of the annihilation mechanism
