Summary
UV light has a denaturing action, of different inetnsity, on the factors involved in blood coagulation, clot retraction and fibrinolysis. Thrombin, fibrinogen and fibrinolysin are more sensitive than prothrombin and thrombokinase. Heparin proved to be very stable. Clot retraction is more easily affected by irradiation of the fully formed clot than by irradiation of plasma. It can also be interrupted by UV light.
