Summary
The author questions the rationale for the use of psychotherapy in drug-treated patients. On the basis of clinical and theoretical considerations, he expresses the opinion that psychopharmacotherapy alone can be effective in neuroses and some psychoses and also suggests that psychotherapy is indicated only in the treatment of patients with well-defined personality disorders. Problems concerning the management and discharge of drug-treated individuals are discussed.
