Constituent quarks, soft pions and meson masses

  • Published:
Zeitschrift für Physik C Particles and Fields

Abstract

In the constituent quark model, a simple mass formula is given to relate the masses of the vector and pseudoscalar mesons. Good agreement is obtained for all mesons, from the lightest π, ϱ mesons to the heaviest. In the limit of vanishing pion mass, alower limit of 230 MeV is obtained for the constituent quark mass.
