Summary
Pregnant mice were infected with herpes simplex virus. The reaction of the embryo and the site of virus multiplication were studied following transplacental infection.
In the stage of blastogenesis “resorptions” were observed as a reaction to infection. During embryogenesis multiplication of the virus took place exclusively within the brain. Hence, the brain is considered to be the organ, preferentially attacked by the virus.
