Summary
Following the addition of purified RNA prepared from rabbit kidneys to HeLa cell cultures, an interferon-like substance is released, which almost completely inhibits the multiplication of Herpes-simplex-Virus (giant cell variant) in HeLa cell cultures. On the other hand, little inhibitory substance was produced by similarly treated rabbit kidney cells. RNA from other sources and species was less effective.
