Atomic effects on the estimation ofv e mass from the β-spectrum in tritium decay

Abstract

We make a rigorous estimation of atomic effects on the tritium β-decay spectrum due to the excitation of the final continuum atomic states. These effects are found to be small in contrast to the conclusion one might obtain on the basis of the plane-wave approximation.
