Summary
In normal dogs the activity of the kidney and liver glucose-6-phospatase decreases significantly after i.v. glucose infusion. When the same animals are rendered diabetic by alloxan, the enzyme activity at fasting is higher, and after i.v. glucose loading changes differently: in the liver it diminishes (as in normal state), whereas in the kidney it increases for the first 10 minutes and thereafter declines with the spontaneous fall of the glycemia.
An explanation of these changes is proposed and some speculations are made upon their possible role on the rate of the glucose tubular transport in normal and diabetic state.
