Summary
Histological findings demonstrate the effect of sulphonylureas on the beta-cells in the islets of Langerhans and on the cells in the adrenalmedulla. After the administration of tolbutamide these cells are degranulated, and this indicated the release of insulin respectively adrenaline. Further the sulphonylureas stimulate the new-formation of alfa- and beta-cells in the pancreas.
