Conclusions

Problems of retaining, collecting, and hauling floating timber to the bank are being solved by the hydrostation operating personnel. The arrival of driftwood at the dam ceased after installing timber-retaining booms on the Sayano-Shushenskoe reservoir in 1988.

The problem of processing the floating timber has not been solved to date. The timber is losing its value, settling on the reservoir banks, it aggravates the fire hazard, and reduces the aesthetic impression and recreational possibilities of the reservoir.

The booms and bank supports of a simplified design compared with the proposed design that were made at the Sayano-Shushenskoe hydrostation as well as the bank attachments of the booms to natural rock projections work reliably under conditions of fluctuations of the reservoir level with an amplitude of 40 m.
