Summary

The toxicity of dextrose administered orally to male albino rats has been studied. It was found that 25.83 g/kg of body-weight are sufficient to kill the 50 % of the animals. The death may be related to a water recall into the gastro-intestinal apparatus with consequent serious generalized dehydration, brain congestion, gastroenteritis and extensive capillary-venous vasodilatation. In surviving rats traces of dehydration could be seen four weeks later.
