Summary
The removal of filter-cake deposit with the advent of an applied electric field of normal polarity and sufficient magnitude is the fundamental basis of electrofiltration. An applied field of reverse polarity will induce more filter-cake deposit, causing inefficiency to the process. The flow behaviours in an electrofiltration cell under the above two situations have been discussed. Such analysis is necessary for a complete understanding of the general features of the process. From theoretical considerations the nature of the filter-cake deposit has been examined. It has been observed that normal polarity does not affect the texture of the deposit, which is, nevertheless, affected by a reverse field application.
