Flow of a viscoelastic fluid between eccentric cylinders

Summary

The longitudinal flow of a viscoelastic fluid, in the annular region between two cylinders with parallel axes, resulting from the uniform motion of one cylinder relative to the other, parallel to its length, is discussed. The fluid is assumed to satisfy the second-orderRivlin-Ericksen constitutive equation. The resultant forces on the inner cylinder are calculated, without restriction on the geometry of the system. Various asymptotic formulae are also obtained.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird die Längsströmung einer viskoelastischen Flüssigkeit im Ringspalt zwischen zwei Zylindern mit parallelen Achsen untersucht, die aus deren gleichförmiger Relativbewegung in Achsenrichtung resultiert. Dabei wird die Anwendbarkeit der Stoffgleichung einerRivlin-Ericksen-Flüssigkeit zweiter Ordnung vorausgesetzt. Die auf den Innenzylinder ausgeübten Kräfte werden ohne einschränkende Annahmen bezüglich der Geometrie des Systems berechnet. Ebenso werden verschiedene asymptotische Formeln abgeleitet.
