Summary
A comparative study of the surface pressure-/area-isotherms of three polyvinyl derivatives were carried out as a function of temperature. The temperature dependence of the curves exhibits the most important differences: At constant area an increase in temperature lead in case of the stearat and ether to a decrease in surface pressure, while in the case of the ether a pressure rise was found. This means that surface compression causes an increase in entropy of the surface film of the stearat and ether, while the entropie of the keton film decreases. This can be interpreted in terms of different molecular rearrangements and dehydratisation processes taking place during a compression.
