Conclusions

The new adhesive compositions developed in the Institute of High Molecular Compound Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR have high damping properties.

Application of damping coatings in the form of the adhesive compositions considered on thin sheet structural elements leads to a significant increase in their damping capacity. Especially effective are coatings based on the constructional adhesive compositions Sprut-5M and Sprut-9M with a ratio of coating weight to metal structure weight of 30%.

The addition of fillers to the adhesive composition in a proportion of 30–50% of its weight reduces the decrement of vibrations of specimens with a coating to an average of half.

Fiber glass-reinforced plastic coatings with horizontal reinforcement based on the high damping adhesive composition Sprut-9M and type T-11-GVS-9 glass fabric used as the reinforcing material have a comparatively low damping capacity. Therefore damping coatings based on adhesive compositions with protective layers of fiber glass-reinforced plastic should be used only for reduction of the level of vibrations of sheet metal structures subject to mechanical action such as structural elements on ships.
