Conclusions
-
1.
In finding the weakest section in the structure of heterophase brittle materials, if is essential to carry out tests to destruction under controlled conditions, i.e. with slow crack propagation.
-
2.
Data have been obtained for the gradation of weak sections in the structure of a WC-20% Co alloy. It is shown to be possible to establish a correlation between the characteristics of the resistance to failure and a complex of stereological parameters of the structure.
-
3.
Raid deformation may occur during crack propagation in a heterophase brittle material, and in consequence it is difficult to determine the failure mechanism from the form of the fracture.
