Abstract
The deformation behaviour and superstructure of polypropylene film tapes prepared by monoaxial stretching and annealing on the stretching rollers up to a film temperature of 204°C at maximum were studied as a function of the annealing temperature. The stress-strain-curves of all the film tapes could be described by the following formula:σ 0 = E* ⋅ εn (σ 0 = conventional stress,ε = elongation,E * = constant parameter,n = constant <1). Using IR and SAXS it was found, thatE * increases with an increasing orientation of the molecule segments in the intercrystalline regions, which have a 3,1-helix-conformation. In contrastn is a linear function of the orientation of molecule segments in the crystalline domains, which do not have a regular 3,1-helix-conformation. This conformation emerges by stretching and is transformed back into the regular helix conformation by annealing under tension at temperatures higher than 195°C. At this film temperature cry stallinity, long identity period in longitudinal and transverse axis, and crystalline orientation function pass through a maximum. A molecular model to explain the deformation behaviour of monoaxial stretched polypropylene film tapes is proposed.
