Abstract

The ratio of the average fission cross sections of Pu239 and U235 is determined for lattices consisting of natural uranium and ordinary water. For comparison the same ratio was measured for a uranium-graphite reactor. It was found that the ratio σ −fPu −fU for uranium-water lattices with spacings of 45, 50, 55 and 60 mm and for a uranium-graphite reactor with 200 mm lattice spacing are 2.24, 1.99, 1.88 and 1.79, respectively.
