Conclusions

The few contributions which discuss the colloidal properties of urinary calculi lack the most important information, namely, what actually causes their formation.

On the basis of all results now available, including surface tension determinations, electrophoretic studies and the development of a new ultramicroscopic technique, it becomes possible to offer proof that a lack of the enzyme hyaluronidase is responsible for the formation of urinary calculi.
