Summary

1. The principles of the radioimmunoassay for angiotensin II levels of the blood are briefly described and preliminary results in normal controls and patients with congestive heart failure are reported.

2. The mean angiotensin II levels of peripheral venous blood in 23 normal controls was found to be 32±14 pg/ml.

3. Angiotensin II levels in patients with congestive heart failure (n=11) were inconsistent; either high, normal or subnormal values were observed.

Zusammenfassung

1. Es werden die Grundzüge der Methode zur radioimmunologischen Bestimmung von Angiotensin II dargestellt und die ersten Ergebnisse bei Normalpersonen und Kranken mit hydropischer Herzinsuffizienz mitgeteilt.

2. Der an 23 Gesunden bei normaler Natriumzufuhr (150 mval pro Tag) festgestellte Mittelwert von Angiotensin II lag bei 32±14 pg/ml.

3. Kranke mit hydropischer Herzinsuffizienz (n=11) wiesen bei salzarmer Kost (30 mval Natrium pro Tag) sowohl erhöhte, normale als auch subnormale Angiotensin II-Werte auf.
