Electrical conductance of kaolin — Electrolyte systems

Summary

The specific conductance of kaolin suspensions was determined at different NaCl and particle concentrations. It was found to vary linearly with particle and/or electrolyte concentration. The slope of the lines was found to depend on the difference in the conductances of ions and particles.

Equations relating the total conductance to the conductances of electrolyte and particles were derived. The differences between the calculated and observed conductances were discussed.

Zusammenfassung

Die spezifische Leitfähigkeit von Kaolinsuspensionen wurde für verschiedene NaCl- und Partikelkonzentrationen bestimmt. Sie variiert linear mit diesen Konzentrationen. Die Steigung der Geraden hängt von der Differenz der Leitfähigkeiten von Ionen und Partikeln ab.

Es lassen sich Gleichungen ableiten, die die Gesamtleitfähigkeit zu den Leitfähigkeiten von Elektrolyten und Partikeln in Beziehung setzen. Die Differenzen zwischen berechneten und beobachteten Leitfähigkeiten werden diskutiert.
