Summary
The adsorption of coagulating ion Ba++ has been determined for the negatively charged sol of hydrous manganese dioxide during its coagulation as affected by barium nitrate in presence of various non electrolytes. The adsorption of stabilising ion OH− has, however, been measured for a precipitate of hydrous manganese dioxide in presence of ethyl alcohol, acetone, glucose, urea, and gelatin. The adsorption of both the ions decreases in presence of ethyl alcohol and acetone whilst increase is observed with the rest. It has been concluded that it is not possible to correlate the change in adsorption of either the coagulating or stabilising ion with sensitisation or stabilisation.
