Summary
In six anesthetized dogs after injection of 100 mg mefruside (Baycaron®) into the aorta above the renal arteries a statistically significant rise of plasma renin activity, natriuresis, kaliuresis, diuresis and the hematocrit could be observed.51Cr-EDTA-and125J-o-iodine hippurate clearances just as the serum values of sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium showed no important alterations. Also the heart rate and the arterial blood pressure were in the normal range during the whole time of the experiments.
It is suggested, that volume receptors, eventually in the region of the macula densa of the distal tubule, may be more important with regard to the regulation of renin secretion than baroreceptors or chemoreceptors.
