Summary
The computer analysis of electrocardiograms proceeds in the following steps: Collection and storage of analog signals, analog-to-digital-conversion, wave-recognition, measurement of the identified waves and diagnosis. The problems which arise at each of these stages are discussed and some of the solutions are presented, which have been tried by various groups and which contributed to the developments in this new field. A subsequent paper will deal in more detail with several systems, which have been subject to extensive practical applications.
