Summary
In 34 patients (17 compensated hypertensives and 17 patients with congestive failure) the oral application of 0.5 gm cyclopenthiazide over a period of 14 to 21 days resulted in a decrease of glomerular filtration rate of 14–17.5%, whereas renal plasma flow increased slightly. The decrease of GFR bore no correlation to changes of blood pressure, plasma volume and circulation time. It is assumed that a decrease in the arteriolar tonus of the vas efferens due to Na-depletion, could be responsible for the decrease of GFR as well as the increase in RPF.
