Summary
The reaction of the rheumatoid factors contained in the sera of 51 individual patients with definite rheumatoid arthritis, withγ-globulin of seven species has been investigated. Two different serological methods were employed. Most rheumatoid factors reacted similarly with the different species'γ-globulins. Using a hemagglutination inhibition technique it could be shown that humanγ-globulin behaved as the homologous antigen, whereas the reaction with the animalγ-globulins obviously represented an immunological crossreaction. These results provide further evidence in favour of the antibody nature of the rheumatoid factors.
