Summary

Temporary mid — torso occlusion by means of a pneumatic tourniquet protected the pelvic bone marrow against the effects of high doses of nitrogen mustard and chlorimine mustard, injected into an arm vein. In 16 out of 40 patients with anaplastic carcinoma of the postnasal space regression of the tumor and corresponding improvement of the performance status, lasting for several months, were observed. Recurrence became evident latest after 8 months. The tolerated dose was limited not by bone marrow depression but by other toxic effects, presumably on the central nervous system.
