The effect of acute hypercalcaemia on parietal-cell secretion stimulated submaximally with theophylline

Summary

In 13 unselected in-patients, the effect of induced acute hypercalcaemia on gastric acid secretion stimulated submaximally by theophylline was examined. Statistical analysis of the results showed that acid secretion stimulated submaximally by theophylline is increased by acute hypercalcaemia. This additive effect of acute hypercalcaemia could be mediated at least partially by liberation of gastrin from the antral mucosa.

Zusammenfassung

Bei 13 unausgewählten Probanden wurde der Effekt induzierter akuter Hypercalcämie auf die durch Theophyllin submaximal stimulierte gastrale HCl-Sekretion geprüft. Die statistische Analyse der Untersuchungsergebnisse zeigte, daß die durch Theophyllin submaximal stimulierte HCl-Sekretion durch akute Hypercalcämie gesteigert wird. Dieser potenzierende Effekt akuter Hypercalcämie könnte zumindest partiell durch Freisetzung von Gastrin in der Antrumschleimhaut vermittelt werden.
