Summary
A method is described for the analysis of porphyrins in liver needle biopsy material by thin-layer chromatography. In normal liver tissue proto-, copro-, and uroporphyrin were found in small concentrations. Protoporphyrin was the main component. High concentrations of uroporphyrin and heptacarboxylic porphyrin are characteristic for the liver of patients with porphyria cutanea tarda.
