Summary
In 3 patients with angio-keratoma corporis diffusum thin layer chromatography was performed according to the method bySkipski et al. (1967), the material being obtained from varying tissue sections (lymph nodes, tonsils, subcutaneous fat) and urine deposits. The results were compared with those of individuals without metabolic disorders and a markedly increased amount of ceramide-trihexosides was found. Although ceramide-dihexosides and ceramidemonohexosides were not seen, a trace of a substance most likely to be globosides was present. A quantative estimation of ceramide-trihexosides was carried out by direct photometry at 460 nm which showed that the quantity of ceramide trihexosides in lymph nodes and adipose tissue of patients with angio-keratoma corporis diffusum is about 20-fold and in the urine sediment more than 100-fold that of healthy individuals.
