Summary
Investigations in man on the influence of treatment with Methyldopa on the estimation of urinary catecholamines led to the following results:
-
1.
During and after treatment with Methyldopa the catecholamine values, determined by the trihydroxyindole method, are excessively increased, because Methyldopa and some of its metabolites excreted in the urine interfere with the catecholamine estimation.
-
2.
After 3 and 5 days of treatment true values of catecholamines are found again after an interval of 6–7 days.
-
3.
In cases suspiciosus for Phaeochromocytoma an already started therapy with Methyldopa has to be interrupted for at least one week before a determination of catechol- amines is performed.
