Die als Weichmacher benutzten Ester Triäthylcitrat und Acetyltriäthylcitrat werden durch Leberhomogenate von Mensch, Ratte und Maus sowie durch Blutserum zu Citronensäure und Äthanol bzw. Essigsäure, Citronensäure und Äthanol hydrolysiert.
