Summary
Intravenous glucose tolerance tests with determination of plasma insulin and free fatty acids were performed in six patients with hepatitis during the acute and the reconvalescent stage of the disease. In comparison to results during reconvalescence and those from normal persons there was a decreased glucose tolerance and an elevation of insulin and free fatty acids during the acute phase. Decreased hepatic glycogen synthesis and decreased insulin retention in the liver are discussed as reasons for these data.
