Summary
According to communications in the literature the rat pancreas excretes a thiamine pyrophosphokinase. In the animal test, a ligature of the cystic and pancreatic canal results in an inhibition of the thiamine absorption. As a cause of this, a deficient phosphorylation of the thiamine in the lumen of the bowels in suggested. Examinations of our own at a totally and a partially pancreatectomised patient did not show any evidence that thiamine is deficiently absorbed in the case of absent or highly reduced exocrine pancreatic function.
