Summary
It is shown that 100 I.U. of ACTH (β-1-25-Corticotropin, synthetic pentacosapeptide DW 75 “Sandoz”), given once daily by intravenous injection over longer periods of time, does not impair the activity of the hypoglycemia-stress-activated adrenotropic center. The time-rhythm of plasma-corticoid concentration is again normalized on the second day after termination of ACTH-therapy. A slight reduction of the morning concentration of plasma corticoids during therapy and an increase of the morning concentration of corticoids in the blood after termination of therapy indicates a slight inhibition of the function of the adrenotropic center followed by a rebound-phenomenon. The effect of ACTH-therapy on adrenotropic function within the system of hypothalamic-pituitary regulation is discussed.
