Concentrations of histamine in plasma and gastric juice in patients with pernicious anaemia

Summary

In patients with pernicious anaemia (n=10) the histamine concentrations in basal and maximal stimulated gastric juice showed significantly decreased values when compared with those of normal individuals (p<0.0005); the plasma histamine concentrations, however, were significantly increased (p<0.0005). A possible parallelism between the increase of plasma histamine concentrations and the relatively high levels of serum gastrin is discussed.
