Further investigations on cellular immunodeficiency in uraemic patients and the effect of haemodialysis

Summary

The spontaneous rossette-formation of lymphocytes and the rate of DNA-synthesis was determined in 33 uremic patients of the haemodialysis unit.

  1. 1.

    Spontaneous rosette-formation of uremic lymphocytes (39,5%,n=16) did not differ from normal lymphocytes (39,3%,n=39).

  2. 2.

    The absolute lymphocyte count was slightly but not significantly reduced in uremic patients compared to normal controls and the slight increase after dialysis was not significant.

  3. 3.

    The PHA-induced DNA-synthesis of lymphocytes of 23 uremic patients was significantly reduced compared to normal controls.

  4. 4.

    The reduced PHA-induced DNA-synthesis of lymphocytes of uremic patients was not different in patients dialysed two times (22 hours) per week and patients dialysed three times (30 hours) per week.

  5. 5.

    No correlation of the reduction of PHA-induced DNA-synthesis to the underlying renal-diseases could be found.

Zusammenfassung

Als Parameter der cellulären Immunantwort wurde neben Bestimmung der absoluten Lymphocytenzahl die spontane Rosettenbildung der Lymphocyten mit Schaferythrocyten und die Lymphocytenstimulation durch Phytohämagglutinin bei 33 Patienten, die sich im chronischen Dialyse-Programm befinden, gemessen. Folgende Ergebnisse wurden erhalten:

  1. 1.

    Die spontane Rosettenbildung der Lymphocyten von Urämiekranken (39,5%,n=16) und von Normalpersonen (39,3%,n=39) ergaben keine signifikanten Unterschiede.

  2. 2.

    Die absolute Lymphocytenzahl war bei den von uns untersuchten Urämie-Patienten leicht, jedoch nicht signifikant erniedrigt und durch die Hämodialyse leicht, jedoch nicht signifikant gesteigert.

  3. 3.

    Die PHA-Stimulation der Lymphocyten von 22 Patienten war gegenüber der Lymphocyten von Normalpersonen signifikant erniedright (p 0,001).

  4. 4.

    Unterschiede der PHA-Stimulation der Lymphocyten von Patienten, die zweimal (insgesamt 22 Std) und dreimal (insgesamt 30 Std) pro Woche dialysiert wurden, bestanden nicht.

  5. 5.

    Eine Beziehung der PHA-Stimulation zu den die terminale Niereninsuffizienz verursachenden Erkrankungen konnte nicht nachgewiesen werden.
